Linda's Piano Tuition Returns to In-Person Teaching
Linda Stevens is a qualified and friendly piano teacher who has been offering Newport piano lessons in South Wales. She has been a piano tutor to both children and adults since the age of sixteen.
Her piano studio had lessons in-house until Covid-19 broke out. The business has been delivering lessons online to young and adult pupils via Zoom and Skype. With government guidelines and the current Covid-19 situation improving, she has been able to resume in-house and one-to-one lessons, which have been happening since 20th June 2021.
In-person and face-to-face music lessons

She is keen to ensure that students are safe and they follow Covid-19 protocols provided by Public Health Wales, the NHS and the UK Department of Education.
“Vigilance is needed to check updates to the Covid-19 guidelines so that any necessary changes may be communicated and lessons adjusted as a result” says Linda Stevens.
To prevent the spread of the virus, this piano teacher will not accept any cash payments. The payments must be made by bank transfer or cheque. If a student has been off school due to illness, they may contact Linda's Piano Tuition and she will organise remote lessons for them until they fully recover.
Face-to-face studies allow the student to be more engaged with the lessons that are delivered. The studio environment is also set to create a homely feel so that everyone taking lessons here will feel comfortable learning.
Musical theory and practical pianoforte playing
When most students, especially children, are preparing to read music notation, they easily relate to finger numbers. All the piano lessons provided are offered together with a study of Music Theory up to Grade 5. That is a necessary step if the student wants to move on to a more advanced level of pianoforte playing. Piano playing lessons up to Grade 7 are available.
Linda spends a lot of time with pupils studying piano keys and their layout. Once they are familiar with the layout, they move into music notation. At this p[oint, students are advised to practice regularly and told how doing this is vital to them understanding how to play the piano.
Availability of ABRSM exams for students
ABRSM performance exams are now available for students at the music studio and, more recently, through a return to examination centres.
In addition to the usual practical exams, the examination board offers remotely assessed performance exams as a result of Covid-19 restrictions. For these exams, that cover piano playing, a video and audio recording of the student are made at Linda's Piano Studio. These recordings are then submitted to the ABRSM examination board. Due care and attention are paid to personal data protection and retention of personal details.
Learning how to play the piano is valuable and pleasing but numerous developing pianists work towards formal recognition of their progress and achievement. Examinations are one way of showing how hard a student has been working and the effort they have put towards gaining the skill. The performance exams do not have a pass or fail. That is an advantage because it relieves the pressure on students.
Once the recorded file is submitted to the ABRSM, a knowledgeable examiner will assess the work of the candidate and provide an assessment together with helpful notes about areas to improve if needed.
The ABRSM exams are essential for students that want to venture into a professional career because they will show the milestones in progress made towards future success.
